KevB
HiExercise Physiologists (ANZSCO 234915) have now been added to the CSOL from 1 July 2014.However, this occupation does not appear on the current State-sponsored occupation lists.Does anyone have any experience with finding an employer who will sponsor a visa for this occupation?Or any other advice for an Exercise Physiologist wanting to find a way to emigrate from SA to Aus?Thanks in advance! MrandMrsK
HI.Am also in allied health (OT) but cant help you with most of your questions, sorry. However, your first step is to get your skills assessment done so that you can approach potential employers/sponsors and show that you would qualify to get the visa based on your skills, and that you would qualify for registration with AHPRA. This skills assessment is quite a long process, so get it started while you investigate your options.Exercise physiology is growing as a profession and seems to be well recognized and well used here.Depending on your AHPRA registration, you may or may not be able to be employed by a private Ex physiologist. (for me, i could get limited registration with AHPRA during the required period of supervised practice, but that meat that I could not work for a private OT as I would not be allowed to bill patients....gets a bit complicated!)Good luck!! Maktub
Hi KevB,In Australia, as far as I know, the organisation that deals with Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPS) is ESSA: http://www.essa.org.au (I could be wrong, but this would be a start). "AEPs are also required to maintain association financial status and professional insurance, renewable on a yearly basis. Continued practice is governed by ESSA’s national re-accreditation, continuing education, and professional accountability requirements" http://www.essa.org.au/wp/wp-content/uploads/AEP-Scope-of-Practice-June-2012-Albion.pdf SMA is another organisation that you may want to be aware of (See their jobs board) http://sma.org.au/
