HadEnoughofJuju
It depends on your skills assessment authority. Most professions require a general test and some assessing authorities don't require it at all. I would contact them or look on their site to see if you can find which one needs to be done. As for the actual visa application you are only required to do a general test and score a minimum of 6 in each band. Don't be fooled by the average score that IELTS give you as DIBP use the lowest of the scores in the four bands to determine how many points you are awarded. My wife had to do the academic test for the skills assessment but redid the general one to score higher points for the visa application.
Black
HiI agree with HEOJJ, rather make sure with the assessment authority and then do the correct IELTS.Best of luck.
Crossedover
Sure general is the one! Only if you are going to interact or teach on a professional level do you sometimes need to do the academic test. I had to as I applied as a teacher.Good luck! SD_MOA
IELTS is not required for the skills assessment for a Motor Mechanic. In this case your husband should sit the GENERAL IELTS test as this is easier than the ACADEMIC test. Here are a few sites that provide information/practice material for the test:http://www.ielts.org/test_takers_information/how_do_i_prepare.aspxhttp://www.ielts-blog.com/http://www.e-englishteacher.com/Regards
