Johnno
We are thinking of settling in the Burns Beach (Perth) area. Any views / comments on the area and surroundings?Any opinions regarding purchasing a home in this area? Would appreciate any feedback from anyone that knows the area or have also settled here. It's a nice area and very popular with UK immigrants. A bit of a trek into the city but the new train station has just been opened which has extended the train journey north. Burns Beach is very much within the Joondalup shopping area which has everything that you'll need so unless you need to get in to the city for work, you do not have to worry about the distance. The northern coastal belt has grown a lot in recent years and it's a popular area. Hope that helps?
rikamarie
We are close to burns beach and it is a nice area. Most areas in this area is really ok. As already said, if you need to go into Perth, it will take you about 45min or more with the car (doesn't sound like much, but believe me, with the speed limit here, it feels like forever!) and 30 min with the train. There is a big shopping mall (Lakeside Joondalup) and a business district that has all your needs covered with regards to shopping etc. The beach itself at Burns beach is ok I guess, not really a swimming beach because there are a lot of rocks, but ok for taking a stroll. There is also a lovely park and restaurant at the beach.Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Chuck in commuter traffic and it's a whole lot of hurt!!
waglio
Thanks for the replies everyone. Going to the city is not a problem for me, as i won't need to commute there for work. Is it a safe area regarding crime?
RichardH
Thanks for the replies everyone. Going to the city is not a problem for me, as i won't need to commute there for work. Is it a safe area regarding crime?I live in the next suburb (Iluka) and can confirm from the weekly community news paper which reports all crime in the municipal area that Burns beach has a very low crime rate. To get the low down on the area have a look at the community paper: http://joondalup.inmycommunity.com.au/ If you register for the digital version then you can see in the section 'crime watch' the crime stats for the areas for the week. Very lite compared to SA :-)
Gerhardk
Burns Beach is great but the lack of schools nearby (walking distance) was a deterrent for us, same with Iluka. Newer part of Quinns Rocks is good value for money and Jindalee is similar to Burns Beach but generally you get more for your money. Then you can even get more for your money going further north to Amberton, Shorehaven, Alkimos etc. Depends what you want to do.As noted above, it has a nice little beach but not great for swimming, the best is further north or south. It has a great playground though and the start of walking / cycling path next to the beach going south.
craigsa
We've just bought a piece of land just a little further North in Jindalee. Currently live in Hamersley, which is pretty close to the city, but looking to move into a larger house with a baby on the way, and looking for the beach lifestyle, which is why we moved to Perth. I love the area North of Ocean reef - Burns Beach, Iluka, Mindarie, Jindalee, etc as the houses are pretty modern and it feels like you're permanently on holiday. Traveling to the CBD will be a pain, but you have the choice of a train as well, and have the lifestyle over the weekend.
