Processing time for 190 visa grants have slowed down :(

Recommended Posts

Just a bit of info for those who are waiting for their 190 or Skilled Regional Sponsored - GSM category visas.

We received info from our Case officer after our agent contacted them with regard to the processing of our 190 Visa. Our medicals were requested just under 2 weeks ago and cleared on Friday, 7 March which is why we were expecting our visa by now.

Apparently the Department of Migration is reaching the the allowable number of visa grants in this particular category, therefor processing times have slowed down. Each Migration Programme (June to July) there is a specific number of applications processed and that limit has almost been reached. Case officers are waiting to hear the final numbers, however they are limited. After the limit is reached the remainder visa's will be processed at the start of the next Migration programme which is July 2014.

A little sad to say the least............

Happy though that she has made contact to say that our medicals were cleared and that the visa will be processed asap, let's hope we sneak in with the last allowable visa applicants.

Case Officer's update below:

Each year visa planning levels are set by the government for the programme year which forms the Migration Programme. The Migration Programme determines the maximum number of visas that can be granted in each visa category each year.

The Direction specifies that Migration Programme planning levels take precedence over priority processing arrangements which can affect the order in which applications are considered during the programme year.

As of February 2014, the Skilled Regional Sponsored GSM category has a limited number of visa places remaining.

The remaining places will be allocated in line with the priority processing arrangements as follows:

· decisions on state and territory nominated subclass 190 and 489 applications; then

· family sponsored subclass 489 applications ; and

· any other Skilled Regional Sponsored GSM applications currently in the final stages of processing. This includes subsequent entrant subclass 489 applications which are exempt from the priority processing arrangements.

This applies to a specific professions, there are limited number of VISA's per category on the SOL/CSOL lists, or someone else can correct me. But check here for details

Put your ANZSCO in and see if your applied skill is still open or closed

Thanks so much for this link - thank goodness my skill is still open for state of Victoria. Really hoping my Victoria SS comes through this week. Been waiting since Nov last year for subclass 189 invite and 2 weeks back decided to try for Victoria SS (subclass 190).

Hi Gareth

Thanks for the link

(I may be wrong but this is what my agent and case officer expalined to me)

The link you posted indicates which states are sponsoring certain professions, or for example which states have 'dropped off the list'. In our case we had 3 states open for our profession, 2 dropped off which left only WA open. I don't think the link provided refers to the amount of visa grants allowed for this years 'Migration Programme' (June - July time period)

The info I provided above (as I understand) has got to do with the amount of 'state sponsored' visa's which are allowed to be processed within this Migration Programme (June - July). The limit is nearing an end which means the application processing time has slowed down up until the exact figures are given from the Minister of Migration - those who don't get processed within this June - July time frame will be processed when the new Migration programme starts in July 2014.

In my opinion the profession and state can still be OPEN in your nominated state (according to your link) although the limit of visa grants may be reached before a visa is processed. It has been confirmed though that regardless off one's nominated state 'closing' or 'dropping of the list' your visa will still be processed at the start of July (when new numbers for that year are given) provided you have already received your invitation from the state you are applying for.

In a nut shell - you can have 3 states 'open' but if the capped limit is reached the visa will then only be processed in July.

The info sent to me (attached above) states this "As of February 2014, the Skilled Regional Sponsored GSM category has a limited number of visa places remaining".......................It doesn't say anything about individual professions which is why I believe it is referring to "state sponsorship' visas as a whole and not individual professions being open or closed.

Migration department are yet to release the exact numbers of allowed visa grants - so there is still hope before July.

Then again I am no expert - ha ha :grads:

Cheers

1982 you are right that is what my agent told me too, they have a cap for the number of visas that they process/grant each year, closer to their year end which is june/july they devide the number of visas into the number of weeks left untill the end of the financial year. So where they could have processed 300 visas per week they now only process 50 (Just an example). Why they do it like this only they would know but unfortunately it is how it is. We could be in this weeks batch, next weeks batch or even next months batch. VERY FRUSTRATING as we wanted to leave by end of May.

Good luck everyone, really hope your visas come through before July.

Does all this apply to 186 ENS visas as well? If so, that would account for the no response we had, since our medicals are done some 4 weeks back.

Not sure Suferman - It applies to the Skilled regional sponsored - GSM category. Think it may only be the 190 and 489. Don't know much about the 186

As far as I understand or from what was sent to me (above) - it was the skilled regional sponsored GSM category which includes 190 and 489. We are also going on a 190 to WA. Just need to hold fingers that there aren't to many to process and that we make the 'allowable numbers' :(

Hi 1982, thanks for this info.

Are you by any chance aware how this may affect those currently waiting for their SS grant? We hope to get our SS from ACT by the end of this month. I think they give 60 or 90 days before you have to lodge you 190 visa OR your SS expires. What happens if 190's are closed in the meantime until July? We can't apply for SS again in the same way as our occupation has sinced closed.

Hi pilotg2

Do you mean you are waiting for your invitation from ACT to lodge application for state sponsorship? If so I would go ahead with everything as planned because as far as I know once you have that invitation from your nominated state it doesn't matter if that state falls of the list. It will still take a while to do your medicals and PCC, in that time you can lodge your application and have a CO assigned - she may even request outstanding documentation. I would rather be stalled with a CO assigned as appose to stalling now. Capped limits are not reached YET - none of us know what those numbers are, worst case if it is reached soon the balance will then be processed in July - so rather be in the system in order for it to be processed when they are allowed to. Don't rush though - rather do it thoroughly.

Hope this helps and answers your question - please understand that this is just my opinion and I don't know much :)

Trevor, we waited about 7 weeks for our CO and now that we have one, we are WAITING, the CO is happy with everything it is now just a case of waiting to see if we are in line for the next batch of grants or not. The waiting is killing me, I really dont want to wait till July we want to book our tickets for end of May already. <_<

That's a good point, if your SS has been granted, (you know you get so many days from SS grant to apply for visa) Would your SS expire even though you have lodged for visa, I guess not as long as you've officially applied, after all the holdup is on their side, not so???

According to the info I got from my agent, this holdup will not affect the application it will just delay the visa grant.

Thanks Trevor, I am just going crazy, now that the Visa processes have slowed down I am not sure where we are yet, are we in the batch that will still be granted before June or will we be in the batch to only be granted after June. We planned to go over end of May, so this whole thing is putting a spanner in our wheels at the moment. VERY Frustrating! We got our CO two weeks ago and all docs are uploaded so just waiting for that grant :boxing:

Hi All - Update

Case occifer removed the wrong baby from my immi acc, added the right baby, saw we have a baby and looks like they decided we do not have to "prove our relationship" anymore, probably due to baby.

Was asked by CO, to submit PCC's and meds, could only apply for HAP numbers online now after they corrected the mistake on immi acc anyway.

Pcc's are received by the .50 and we should hopefully receive next week.

Hopefully if we can settle meds and PCC's we may be A for AWAY by end March.

From what I understand if they dont ask for more, they are probably happy with all documentation so far......????

It also depends on what Visa you are applying for as some visa's like ours 190 SS processing time have slowed down. We had all docs uploaded by the 5th Of March when we also received our CO, medicals were done in Feb already, so we are still waiting for a grant and it has been two weeks so far since we received CO and docs have been uploaded.

As you know the process have slowed down, on DIBP the processing time have changed from 7 weeks to 3 months. We applied 21 Jan so we can expect to have our visa by 21 April worst case scenario. Thats how I understand it anyway.
