Hi.
We're moving to Perth in March '12 and have one 15 year old son to school. I hear the arguments for and against private schools and as he's performed very well in a government school in Somerset West we're very happy to go that route. My offices are based in Forrestfield and I'm looking for a few viable options in the near vicinity. I don't have to live on work's doorstep but any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Jonny, Pam and Justin.

Mr. Fin, I don't know Perth but will add my comment on state schools and our (limited) experience in Adelaide. We decided on a school that had a strong sports focus, which is fairly rare in state schools. (My wife stumbled on a school via the Net when she googled a school hockey league.)
Being a popular school it was quite a battle getting enrolled, as we had to provide evidence of a 12-month lease. So check out the school 'zone' as they can be strict about your address, even refusing entry if you live on the opposite side of a street that forms the border of the zone!
Having said that, when we finally enrolled our son (and because we had been communicating with them) the lady had already had a meeting with the sports master prior to enrolment. I was impressed with this proactive approach.
We had also put together a small CV for our son (his schools, achievements etc) so that might help you.
In my work we often supply shelving and trolleys to schools. I am always amazed at the funds which are pumped into the public education system - a school in a 'not so well off' area near my work has recently spent over $1m just on their science lab. State schools are not necessarily to be avoided like in SA: our guy gets a laptop next week too!
I assume you've checked the 'myschool' website
Good Luck - you'll be fine!

Thanks Wodwick, appreciate the input mate. Will most certainly check out the My School website, right now just trying to deal with the urgency of packing up with only four weeks notice. Nothing like a bit of pressure to get you going. LGM.2
