Hi there

Since Air Malaysia cancelled on us, we are desperately looking for other flights. It's costing is R6000+ extra and we can get tickets with both Singapore and Emirates. Which airline is the best?

The cons with Singapore:
We are flying from CT but there is a stopover at JHB (we're not allowed to get off the plane).
The pro's:
We land in Singapore in the early morning, and land in Perth in Midday.

The cons of Emirates:
We land in Dubai early morning, have to wait 5 hours and we land midnight in Perth!!
The pro's of Emirates - 30kg baggage allowance.

Please help, we can't make up our minds!

Thanks in advance :)

I flew emirates, they are really nice. You probably be one one of the new A380s as well :)

The problem with Emirates is the flights land midnight in Perth, so we're going to have to sit on the airport until morning. If we want to land midday, we will add R5k+ to the costs - we started off paying for a R18000 flight and now we have to look at R26k flights!! Not cool :(

Hi

I would go for Singapore Airlines - much quicker and they are also one of the top ones in the world.

Singapore have flights direct CT-Singapore as well as we have done it before (unless they have now changed?)

May be nice also to stop for a day or so in Singapore (pending circumstances)

Singapore - Perth is a short flight whilst Dubai- Perth is a very long flight

Agreed, Singapore trumps Emirates by a long margin.

and yes, I have flown on both airlines... There are many reasons why Singapore is one of the best airlines in the world. Also... the airport in Singapore, Changi is one of the best airports in the world.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice! It seems we're going to have to take Singapore, all the Emirates flights that lands during the day is full or R84 000 (or not!). Our baggage allowance can be increased to 30kg (adding another few Rk to the costs).

Thanks!

We flew with Singapore Airlines from the UK with 2 kids and it was excellent.

The airport was also amazing, 10x better than Melbourne airport I must say.

Also we told them we were immigrating so the allowed excess luggage - it was fine as long as they could check your visa in your passport.

Hi,

Yes Singapore I would say is the better choice although I have not flown with emirates. We will also go with Singapore when our visas is sorted out. Have fun!

I flew with Emirates to Greece last year. and they are really great. really nice food. and onboard entertainment great - lots of new movies to watch. But isn't it a very long flight to OZ,if you have to stop in Dubai first?

Don, it's a VERY long flight via Dubai..and the wait on the airport there is 5 hours.

So we decided on Singapore (because of pricing and the time of arrival in Perth), went to Flight Centre to book the tickets and while we were booking received an e-mail on my bb from IOM with a quote through SAA/Qantas - R22 000 for 2 adults and 1 child, with 40kg luggage and direct flight from CPT to JHB to Perth. So we immediately took that flight.

So in the end things worked out and we only forked out an extra R3500. And that after I set my heart on Singapore :) Now we're trying to get our money back from Air Malaysia..they told us it takes up to 8weeks! Shocking!

glad you've got a flight with qantas. we've also used quantas 3 months ago when we moved to Perth. Luckily the plane had individual tv's for each person as not all of their planes have. so, that kept the children busy.

(5 hour wait at the airport is terrible. we had to wait 6 hours in Dubai. I did 2 hours of shopping - really cheap and then slept with one eye open and watching the clock)
